Frequently Asked Questions
  • What type of accommodations can I expect?
    Your accommodations will vary from 4 star hotels to the best available Bed and Breakfasts. Keep in mind that your tour is not passing through major metropolitan areas so access to 4 and 5 star properties are limited. We will be happy to share the quality of accommodations when you are booking the tour.
  • How large are the tours?
    Most tours take a maximum of 10 - 12 people. Please refer to your tour's details for group sizes.
  • Does the fluctuation between the euro and the dollar affect the cost of my tour?
    Yes, the trips are quoted in $USD currency, however, as the tours are quoted to High Pointe International in Euros, your cost is subject to the currency exchange at the time of final payment. The exchange rate will be fixed on the date of your final payment and will be reflected on your invoice.
  • How do I reserve a tour?
    Email or call us to make your initial reservation. We require 25% of the tour's cost as a deposit. The balance of the cost is due 10 weeks prior to the departure. You can pay by credit card, check or money order. All funds should be payable in U.S. dollars. If you reserve a tour within 70 days of departure, full payment is due at the time of booking. If final payment is not received when due, High Pointe International will consider the reservation as canceled. Refer to booking conditions.
  • How far in advance do I need to book?
    Most rides are limited to 10 people so the advance booking will allow you the opportunity to reserve the ride of your choice.
  • Should I purchase travel protection insurance?
    We strongly recommend that you buy travel insurance to protect yourself in case of loss or damage to your baggage and the need for emergency medical expenses. We can help you purchase the insurance or you can use your own carrier.
  • When will I receive a confirmation?
    As we are dealing with a time difference between the U.S. and Europe, it can take up to 48 hours to confirm. Your confirmation will be sent by e-mail or fax. A final package with the details of your tour will arrive by mail.
  • What happens if my selected tour does not reach the minimum required number of people to attend?
    If the tour does not have the required minimum and is cancelled, High Pointe International will attempt to find an alternative tour during your chosen date. If none are available, a full refund will be made. Unfortunately, we cannot be responsible for refunding your air fare.
  • What happens if I choose to change my tour after I have already made a reservation?
    You may transfer from one date to another for the same trip. A $125 administrative fee will apply. Generally, it is not possible to change to another tour and our cancellation policy would apply.
  • How do I handle airline reservations?
    We are happy to book your airline or you can do this yourself. Do not confirm your reservation until you have received a written tour confirmation from us.
  • How will my family contact me while I am on the tour?
    You will receive the cell phone numbers of your guides as well as the direct lines to your High Pointe International partners to share with your family members.
  • Will I be uncomfortable if I travel alone?
    Absolutely not! I have taken these tours as a single person and found instant friends among those I travel with. Local guides will escort through the country. You will find your traveling companions share the same horsey interests as you and as the days past you will forge new and rich friendships.
  • What clothes will I need to bring?
    A detailed list of the clothing will be sent to you. A hard hat, britches, half chaps and jodhpur boots or riding boots are required. As your luggage will be transported by vehicles and most of the hotels do not have elevators, packing light is recommended.
  • Do the guides carry mobile phones?
    Yes.
  • What is provided to carry my essentials?
    Saddlebags will be provided on the horses.
  • Can I bring someone who does not ride?
    Yes, ask your High Pointe International partner for activities that are available for non-riding individuals.
  • Are these rides dangerous?
    Vacation horseback riding always carries an element of danger whether you are riding in your backyard or a foreign country. Every measure has been taken to ensure your safety during your trip.
  • How is my luggage transferred during the tour?
    Your luggage will be transported from inn to inn by vehicle.
  • Should I prepare for the ride?
    Absolutely! The fitter you are the more you will enjoy the riding vacation. Prior to your trip, we suggest you take riding lessons or ride trails which include trots and canters. Strengthening your legs and back in a gym will also help.
  • What are the ages of the participants?
    Mostly adults from age 30 - 60.
  • Can my children participate?
    They must have the endurance to handle a horse for an entire day. Also as most of these rides have adult participants, they may find themselves without peers of their same age.
  • Should I tip the guide, driver?
    They will appreciate a tip in the range of 10 - 15%. You can leave the gratuity with the main guide and ask them to distribute it among the staff. In countries where American clothing is difficult to get ( Morocco etc.) your guides would appreciate jeans and t-shirts.
  • What happens if I choose not to ride on a particular day?
    The answer to this one really depends on that particular ride's policies. Generally, taking a day off is only allowed on stationary rides. On other rides, keep in mind that you are traveling from Inn to Inn so the ride will not return to your current hotel. However, as mentioned some rides will allow you to be taken by vehicle to the next destination and await the ride to reach you.
  • I ride Western. Will I be comfortable in a ride which offers only English saddles?
    Only if you are able to post to the trot. These horses do not jog.
  • What is so special about these tours?
    You have the opportunity to connect with the local people and the land in a special way. Many places you will visit are accessible only by horse, so you are experiencing more than what the typical tourist will see. As the guides are native to the region, you will have an opportunity to experience the culture unique to the area. You will be surrounded by fellow horse enthusiasts from around the world and will gain wonderful new friends.
  • Will the tours accomodate my special diet?
    All requests will be attempted to be honored based on prior notice.
  • What level of rider do I need to be?
    Inn to Inn Rides require the ability to walk, trot and canter with control. The rides will vary in the level of challenge you would like to experience.  If you are a novice rider,the horsemanship and equestrian resort rides will suit your ability. The fitter you are the more you and your horse will enjoy the ride.
  • How long will I be riding each day?
    From 2 - 5 hours, sometimes a little more depending on the ride.
  • What is included in the cost of the tour?
    Your horse riding vacation will include your horse, your tack, guided activities, accommodations, and meals as indicated. The airline reservation and some transfers to and from the airport are not included.
