    A picturesque horseback riding vacation in southwest France! Part of the Aquitaine region, Dordogne Périgord is one of the largest and most picturesque counties in France. The region is also has many historic buildings. You will ride along horseback trails that will take you through the thick oak and chestnut forests of the Black Périgord. Picnic lunch will be served near the 17th century Abbey of Cadouin. Danube River paths lead to the picturesque village of Mauzac and the historic fishing port of Limeuil.  Castles tours include 15th century Bannes Castle,  Château des Milandes, 12th century Castle of Castelnaud la Chapelle, Château de Campagnac and the 15th-century Puymartin Castle. Highlight of the horseback riding vacation is a visit to the medieval village of  Sarlat.



  • Ride Itinerary - Dordogne Forest Ride

    Day 1: 
    In the late afternoon, you will be welcomed at either the Lalinde or Bergerac train station and driven to your hotel.

    Day 2: 
    After breakfast, you will mount up for your ride to the  15th century Bannes Castle which overlooks the valley of Couze. You will tour the castle’s the magnificent garden with its sparkling lakes and waterfall as well as the Bastide of Lalinde. Your group will then follow the canal until arrival at the picturesque village of Mauzac located on the bank of the Dordogne River.  A picnic lunch will be served.  In the afternoon, you will ride to the historic fishing port of Limeuil perched at the confluence of the Dordogne and the Vezere Rivers. Dinner and overnight in a B & B or hotel.

    Day 3:
    After riding deep into stoic forests, your group will picnic on the banks of the Dordogne near the hilltop village of St. Cyprian. In the afternoon, your trail will lead you to the Château des Milandes, the former residence of singer, Joséphine Backer.  At day’s end, you will dismount and cross a medieval path between the castle of Tayac and the castle of Castelnaud-la-Chapelle.   Dinner and overnight in a B & B or hotel.

    Day 4: 
    Your trail will descend into the Céou Valley where you will visit of the 12th century Castle of Castelnaud la Chapelle and its Museum of War Middle Ages. From the promontory of the medieval city, you will enjoy a panoramic view of the entire Dordogne Valley of the Dordogne from Montfort to Beynac. Next, you will ride to your picnic lunch set at the foot of a windmill in the Bastide Of Domme. In the afternoon, your horse will carry you to Vitrac where the horses will be stabled. Your group will be driven to the medieval city of Sarlat where you will be charmed by the narrow streets and half-timbered houses. Dinner and overnight in a B & B or hotel.

    Day 5:
    From Sarlat, you will ride to Château de Campagnac where you will enjoy a picnic on the castle grounds. The afternoon is free so you can stroll through the lively streets of Sarlat. This is the capital of the Black Perigord, a city of art and history, and one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. It boasts a rich architecture dating back to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Dinner and overnight in a B & B or hotel.

    Day 6:
    To reach the village of Meyrals, your trail will cut through forests of chestnut trees. Along the way, you will view 15th-century Puymartin Castle. Lunch will be served at the foot of the church in the village of Meyrals. Here you will experience the tranquillity of this area’s outstanding natural beauty. Dinner and overnight in a guest room or at the hotel.

    Day 7:
    In the morning, you will ride along the Dordogne River to Cadouin. A picnic lunch will be served near the 17th century Abbey of Cadouin. The Gothic cloister is decorated with Renaissance columns. In the afternoon, you will pass through the forest of La Béssede, the largest massif in the Perigord area. Afterwards, your group will explore 12th-century bastide of Molière and then tour the Castle of Bannes. Dinner and overnight in a B & B or at the hotel.

    Day 8:
    After breakfast, transfer to the train station for departure.
