A breathtaking horseback riding vacation in Spain’s Extremadura. The Spanish word “extremar” means “to go to extremes.” This remote region offers a rare combination of lush forests, impressive mountains and sweeping plains dotted with historic villages. History buffs and bird-watchers will delight in this horseback riding vacation.

Your trails will follow the flight of the storks from their nests in the ancient village of Trujillo to their congregation with eagles and swallows in the Villuercas Mountain Geopark (UNESCO). This geopark is the emblematic landscape of the Extremadura – dense forest of Dehesa, holm and cork oaks. Along the way, you will ride through the picturesque villages of  Berzocana and Cañamero.  In addition, you will learn about the intriguing culture of the Spanish Conquistadors, local Roman and Arabic architecture. The accommodations vary from charming rural B & B’s to a delightful 4* hotel in Trujillo. All rooms have private bathrooms.

The food is another highlight of this horseback ride. From tapas-breaks waiting for you in unexpected places with Serrano ham, Manchego cheese, olives, nuts,  to delicious traditional meals.  Menus feature home cooked Spanish dishes as Paella, Tortilla Española, Iberianola, Iberian pork bbq, salads,  Extremadura “Torta del Casar” soft cheese and regional wines.  RIDING IN SPAIN
