Ride Overview - Iceland Volcano and Glacier Ride
This horseback riding vacation in Iceland will provide a dramatic volcanic landscape of geysers, hot springs, waterfalls, glaciers and black-sand beaches. The region is the home of the Vikings and geothermal power. You will ride 11 – 18 miles per day on wonderful tölting tracks that will lead you across a brilliant green countryside with marvelous views of the Hekla Volcano and the Langjökull and Eyjafjallajökull Glaciers; the uninhabited wilderness north of the picturesque Tungufellsdalur Valley and along the mighty salmon Stóra-Laxá River which is lined with fantastic basalt columns. You will ride the sturdy Icelandic Horse whose special gait, the tölt, is a very comfortable four beat gait similar to the rack of the American Saddlebred. The horse can go very fast in this particular gait and the gait is ideal for long distance traveling. In spite of their small size (about 140 cm), they are considered horses not ponies and carry easily a full grown adult. You will enjoy the comfortable accommodations of a 3+* hotel with a private bathroom or a B & B with shared facilities. Your meals will be prepared with locally sourced, mainly organic produce and meats. At the end of the day, you will delight in soaking in a hot tub in the beautiful hotel garden underneath the midnight sun during summer or the Northern lights in autumn. In addition, you can slip away to a natural hot spring located in a secret lagoon. Several geothermal springs and a little geyser which erupts every 5 minutes and rising steam gives a magical feeling. There are also non-riding activities such as river rafting or a thrilling ride on a river jet. Four riding day, family options and inn to inn rides are also available. A unique horseback riding vacation that will provide lifetime memories! RIDING IN ICELAND
My family are all expert riders (I am a professional equestrian) and we all couldn’t recommend them more! We rode for 5 days, each day more beautiful then the next. The owners are kind, funny, salt of the Earth type of people and our guide Martina was awesome! As an equestrian, I am bored on most riding tours, but NOT here! They tailored our experience perfectly to our riding level and I had such a blast. The horses are very well trained and very well cared for. We rode to local hot springs and cafes with amazing food.
We left feeling like we were a part of their family! 10/10 would recommend!! Z.S., USA
