    If you like to ride in the mountains, you will love this Spanish horseback riding vacation in Spain! Your trails ascend to the peaks of up to 9,200 feet/2,800 m. You will ride across great alpine ranges, deep valleys and moon-like rocky reliefs.  Along the way, you will ride into French territory to cross summertime ski resorts. The views are immense and breath- taking. It is common to see eagles, vultures, wild goats and deer. You will mount up to ride across the plains of wheat and sunflowers in the El Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park. Breathtaking scenery is guaranteed during this ride! This equestrian vacation is appropriate only for experienced riders and physically fit people used to hiking on mountains trails.  RIDING IN SPAIN

  • Ride Itinerary - High Pyrenees Mountain Horseback Ride

    Day 1:
    You will be transferred to the picturesque Catalan village of L’Abella nestled in the Pyrenees. Before dinner, you will meet your guide and fellow riders to go over the week’s program and the special characteristics of our Andalusian trail horses.

    Day 2:
    After an early start from L’Abella, you will begin to climb up to Costa Bona (8,000 feet/2500m). Soon your group will  leave the track as in this highland there is only rolling mountain meadows and wild flowers to enjoy some very nice canters and gallops.  At the peak of Costa Bona, you will enter into the French territory passing the source of the Ter River. The views are immense and breath- taking, the light is that of the Pyrenees.  It is common to see eagles, vultures, wild goats and deer. Then you will  your trail crossing the landscapes of Can Magre, and Portella de Mantet to reach the slope of Vallter (6500 feet/2000m). Your group will leave the horses here and a van will transfer you to the hotel in Tregurà, a popular area known  for excellent traditional gastronomy.

    Day 3: 
    An early morning start will bring you to a spectacular high summit (8,500 – 9,100 feet/2,600 – 2800m.) From Vallter 2000, you will ride to Coll de la Marrana. On the banks of the Freser River, your group will stop for a picnic. After lunch, your trail will ascend to the Pic de l’Infern where you can admire the beautiful lakes of Carança and the valley of Coma de Vaca. Your next stop is the Nou Creus peak, altitude 9,100 feet/ 2,800 m.  This is the highest peak on this trail. During the descent, you can enjoy long canters until your group reach’s  Vall de Núria, and Queralbs. You will lodging will be in a quaint hotel.

    Day 4:
    You will begin this day by riding across the French territory.  Your trail will traverse along ski stations to an intense ascension to the summit of the Coll de Finestrellas Mountain. From Vall de Núria, your horse will climb up to impressive Finestrelles;  crossing several times from Spain to France. Next,  your group will  easily descend along  Puigmal hillside to a scenic picnic spot. After lunch, you will ride into French territory through Vilallobent and then back to Spain to arrive at Pugicerdà. After you have checked in to your hotel, you can enjoy the spa or downtown.

    Day 5: 
    Today, you will enjoy not only relaxing walks but also invigorating canters and gallops. You will be riding across Cerdanya, one of Europe’s widest valleys, altitude 3,200 feet/ 1,000 m. From Puigcerdá, the main village of the valley, your group will ride towards Queixans to ascend subalpine mountains. Along the way, lunch will be served  in the alpine hut of Pla les Forques. The diversity and beautiful landscape is clearly evident – from pure Mediterranean traits to alpine meadows of high altitude.  You can even find sub-Mediterranean woods, beech forests, boreal woodlands of red pine trees and sub-alpine conifer woods with black pine trees and fir trees. The vegetation is of special interest since its low temperatures, high degree of humidity , and its altitude have all contributed to the existence of species which are not characteristic of the Mediterranean region but instead of northern Europe and the high alpine or European mountains. After lunch, your trail will descend to your La Molina ski resort accommodation.

    Day 6:  
    You will ride amongst two great mountain ridges, El Cadí and El Moixeró. The ridges meet at Coll de Tancalaporta and form an impressive mountain barrier where the main Pyrenean ridge meets the pre-Pyrenees. This is where El Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park protects not just a wonderful biodiversity but also numerous sites of outstanding natural beauty.  You will mount up to  ride across the plains of wheat and sunflowers. Then ascending trail to  breezy mountain meadows where cattle and horses graze in the summer. Along the way, you will become aware of the strength, sure footedness and stamina of the horses as they power their way up the peak. Your group will reach an altitude of 4,900 feet/1500 m before arriving at las Barracas del Rus used for cattle. Your picnic lunch will be set within a vast green landscapes with many sources of water.  After lunch, long gallops across the meadows of Pla d’Anella. As many as 2,000 sheep graze here in the summer. Your lodging will be in a hotel in La Molina.

    Day 7: 
    After breakfast, you will be transferred to the Barcelona Airport.

    Best months to ride: Northern Spain’s peak season is July and August. Central region: October – May. Southern: late spring – early autumn. Winter riding can be enjoy in the Andalusia because of the desert like climate.
