Ride Overview - Traslasierra Valley to Los Gigantes
A beautiful horseback riding vacation in the Spanish colonial Córdoba region in central Argentina. Your trail will take you through the foothills of the Sierras Chicas on the Suquía River, about 700 km (435 mi) northwest of the Buenos Aires. A comfortable Peruvian Paso horse will take you through historic towns whose connection is part of the history forged by the Jesuits, great advocates of the land’s culture, tradition and economy. The region’s iconic buildings have provided inspiration to novelists. In addition, you will visit internationally renown wineries and olive oil plants.

Ride Itinerary - Traslasierra Valley to Los Gigantes
You will be transferred from the Córdoba Airport to your comfortable Estancia B & B located in the city of Nono, Traslasierra. During the two and a half hour drive, you will notice how the landscape, vegetation and even the scent from the sierras change. Upon arrival at the Estancia and depending on the time, you will be served a traditional serrana meal. You will then have a chance of walking around the facilities, to enjoy a rest, engage in outdoor activities or share board games and ping pong or pool with other people. During dinner, you will have an opportunity to savor home-made international and national cuisine. The natural environment invites you to rest and to enjoy contact with nature!
After breakfast, you will meet your horse. It is important to get to know your horse well since they will be your route companions. Communication and empathy are essential. You will go on a two-hour ride across the estancia’s estate to adapt to your horse and the saddle. Upon your return, you will enjoy a magnificent criollo barbecue. In the afternoon, you will view the “A 500-year Lineage” documentary (subtitled in English) that tells how important horses are in man´s life, especially the Peruvian Paso horse. Dinner and lodging will be at the Estancia. You will notice that your room bears the name of one of the estancia’s horses!
After a delicious breakfast of home-made pastry and chef’s specialties, you will set out on your trail across Nono and through the Río de los Sauces to arrive at a secluded spot for a picnic. After lunch, you will ride along a road that will take your group to the Villa Cura Brochero. Father Brochero is known as the gaucho priest, beatified by the Catholic Church. From there, you will ride along the Panaholma River to the town of Panaholma where you will have dinner and spend the night in cabins. You are discovering the beauty of wild landscapes!
Your trail travels from Panaholma to the town of Ambul. Along the way, your group will stop to have a light lunch. A path through “El Volcán” will lead to “El Taruca Pampa,” one of the most important livestock estancias. There you will savor an Argentine barbecue (grilled meat) and enjoy a guitarreada (campfire jam) with your gaucho friends from the estancia. You will stay at the camp set up by the logistics team.
You will mount up to ride across mountains and plains to the town of San Jerónimo. A picnic lunch will be served as you enjoy the surrounding landscapes and the scent of the sierras. After lunch, your trek continues to San Jerónimo where you will lodge in cabins for the evening.
Today you will ride to the Britos swamplands. Your group will have lunch at Don Santos de Barros place, a homey and warm place. You will then resume riding and head to the town of Cruz de Caña. You will dine and lodge in cabins.
History and culture will vibrate all around you as your trail leads you to the La Candelaria Jesuit estancia. The Jesuits religious order built several estancias throughout the Province of Córdoba. Such estancias had different purposes; some of them were cloisters or convents others were major agriculture and livestock establishments which were used for evangelization purposes. The estancias as well as the Jesuit Block in the City of Córdoba were declared World Heritage by the UNESCO. After visiting La Candelaria, you will have lunch there and then continue across the pampas in San Luis until arriving at a livestock estancia called Majada de Santiago. Your group will be welcomed by the gauchos who run cattle with mates and traditional biscuits. Then you will be transferred back to Cruz de Caña cabins for dinner and lodging.
You will be transferred to Majada de Santiago to meet your horse for a ride to San Jerónimo. Around midday, you will have lunch on the San Guillermo riverbanks. Your group will then continue to your destination, San Jerónimo. You will then be transferred to Estancia Haras Ampascachi. Upon arrival, you will have dinner and spend the night there.
Today is a non-riding day. You may choose to stay at the estancia to a rest, engage in activities in the facilities or go on a tour. The proposed tour is to visit Olium manufacturing plant which has been awarded international prizes for its olive oil production. You may also visit the Noble Winery located in San Javier town. The winery has special vines and a distinctive wine manufacturing process. Along the way, you can also visit tourist points and museums that are part of the region and world history. The day ends for all with a farewell dinner.
After breakfast at the estancia with home-made bread and regional marmalades, you will be transferred to the Cordoba City Airport.

The campsite consists of dorm tents with cots and sleeping bags, dining shelters with chairs, tables and silverware, toilette tents with chemical toilets and hot water heaters. You will be provided with body hygiene kits and the necessary equipment such as sleeping bags. In this type of accommodation, guests might have to share the tent with other people.
