A horseback riding vacation with wine tasting in the beautiful region of Provence, France! You will taste the most popular Provincial wines in France ! Planned samplings include the red Cotes de Luberon, the rose, red and white Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence, the fruity red Cotes du Ventoux, the famous Cotes du Rhone, the sweet muscat based Beaumes-de-Venise and the gravely Gigondas. Along the way, your trusty horse will carry you along pungent and colorful trails through the heart of Provence to the Rhone Valley nestled at the foot of Mont Ventoux . Ride Itinerary - Trails with Wines of Provence Ride
You will be met at the either the Marseille Airport at 5:00 PM or Aix-en-Provence train stations at 5:30 – 5:45 PM and transferred to your equestrian B & B.
You will follow the gnarled vines sheltered by the southern side of the Luberon. On the way, you will enjoy a wine tasting visit in a “Cave de Vins” and a copious picnic buffet in a secluded pine grove. In the evening, dinner and night spent in an auberge, or return to the “Mas de Recaute” in the minibus (on certain dates). A pleasant meal accompanied by a “Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence”.
Ride through pine forests with wonderful views of the Durance valley with orchards, whose fruit you will taste at the picnic. In the afternoon, landscapes of cliffs where eagles and other birds of prey nest. Arrive at Oppède where the horses will stay for the night. For the riders transfer to Coustellet. Dinner at the restaurant and night at the hotel.
Wednesday: Today, you will ride across the fruity red wine of the “Côtes de Ventoux” area by way of a trail through Vaucluse Mountain. You will reach the “mur du peste” a wall constructed in 1720 to protect the populations from the great epidemic that spread from Marseille. Night near the historical vial of Vénasque.
Your trail crosses rolling hills, through pine forests and cherry orchards facing the “Mont Ventoux” called the “Giant of Provence.” Before lunch, a wine tasting will occur at the picturesque winery of Domaine des Anges renown for deep, nocturnal red wine with violet edges. In the late afternoon, you will arrive at the Moulin d’Antelon or another guesthouse near the village Crillon le Brave. The village takes its full name of Crillon-le-Brave from the most legendary of its dukes: Louis des Balbes de Berton de Crillon or “Le Brave Crillon” (1541–1615) was one of Henri IV’s fiercest and most valiant generals during the French Wars of Religion in the late 16th century. The same Crillon family also gave its name to the famous Hôtel de Crillon in Paris. Before dinner, you can enjoy the swimming pool.
You will ride through villages with the Mont Ventoux in the background. After a picnic near the Barroux village and chateau, you will discover the amazing short steep distinctive rocky ridges of the Dentelles de Montmirail (“dentelle” means lace). In the heart of this beautiful panorama, you will be offered a primarily Granche wine tasting at Domaine de Cassan. Your ride will end at Gigondas and you will e transferred to your B & B.
After breakfast, you will be transferred for Aix-en-Provence train stations arrivals at either 10:00 AM or 10:30 AM or Marseille airport arrival at 11:00 AM.
